The trouble with history.

What we call history will only ever be an interpretation of what happened in the past. That interpretation is constantly changing as new discoveries are made.
Broadly speaking historians fall into two categories - academic and alternative. Academic historians limit themselves to what can be proved, which is not perhaps an unreasonable position to adopt. If I were a professor of history of St. Someone or other's University, and my salary depended on never being proved wrong by my peer group, no doubt I too would stick to what can be proved from primary sources.
